Starting tomorrow 8-27-07 for the first time

Hi everyone I'm going to start the csd tomorrow and try very hard to stick to it. I have tried a version of it years ago and ended up just making it as a meal off and on because I liked it so much but I've never followed the whole 7 day plan.  I went shopping today and got the ingredients plus some extra in case I need to make another pot mid-week.  I"m so nervous but excited to be doing something again, I've been so lazy about my weight since my daughter was born 6 months ago.

Anyone else starting today or tomorrow?????

Re: Starting tomorrow 8-27-07 for the first time

I just started the diet today.  I've never tried it before.  Made the soup this morning and a huge bowl of fruit salad.  So far I've eaten 2 bowls of soup and the whole big mess of fruit.  My stomach is crampy, but that has more to do with the monthly curse:blush:  And yes I am already gassy...my family is stearing clear and walking around with the air freshner, lol.  I am doing the diet with one of my coworkers, so we have a buddy system.  Good luck to every body else.  If you hear a sonic boom form california...it's just me:P

Re: Starting tomorrow 8-27-07 for the first time

hi lkirby! i am starting the diet for the 1st time tomorrow too!! i am really nervous about it but mostly i am just PRAYING that it works! Since the diet takes so much discipline, I just hope that the results are worth the committment. I am on my way to target now to buy a big pot and then off to the grocery to buy the ingredients! then ill make the soup and hope for the best. i have never been part of a discussion board before, but i am really enjoying reading the posts so far, finding answers to questions i've had, and seeing that i am not alone in this struggle! keep in touch so we can stay motivated! P.S. congrats on having a baby!

I also have some general questions for anyone who can help:
First off, I don't see where there is a link to start a new post, only a place to reply to other posts. Any suggestions?

Secondly, I did weight watchers several years ago with my mom, and they had this amazing soup that was supposedly 0 points.

Here is the recipe and I want to see how people think the soups compare in terms of the diet.

Weight Watchers Soup:
2/3 cup sliced carrot
1/2 cup diced onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 cups fat free broth (beef, chicken, or vegetable)
1 1/2 cups diced green cabbage
1/2 cup green beans
1 Tbsp. tomato paste
1/2 tsp. dried basil
1/4 tsp. dried oregano
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup diced zucchini

Cabbage Soup Recipe
6 large green onions
2 green peppers
1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (diced or whole)
3 Carrots
1 Container (10 oz. or so) Mushrooms
1 bunch of celery
half a head of cabbage
1 package Lipton soup mix
1 or 2 cubes of bouillon (optional)
1 48oz can V8 juice (optional)
Season to taste with salt, pepper, parsley, curry, garlic powder, etc.

Both recipes contain carrots, cabbage, onions, and seasonings, but I HATE green peppers so i was wondering if I could switch the green peppers for zucchini. any thoughts?
Also, since the cabbage soup recipe says you can add V8, is the tomato paste ok instead?
I also don't like celery in my soup, so can I just leave it out?
Lastly, any thoughts on how the Lipton soup mix compares with Fat Free broth??

Re: Starting tomorrow 8-27-07 for the first time

Great job on all the new starts

To start a new topic you will need to click on the type of thread you want...General disscussion, diet buddy etc then you will see on the upper right "start new topic"

now for the soup delima,
both recipes are very similar I can only offer you my opinion. so I would say take the best from both and leave out what you don't like.  I am not a fan of mushrooms and never use them. I don't use the bullion cubes or V-8 but use a can of diced tomatoes pureed (I don't like chucks) I also puree the green pepper to get the benifits but again don't like chucks of pepper.  I don't use the lipton onion soup mix but add a can of diced tomatoes with green chili's..

everyone's version is to there own taste and they all work, this is a low cal, low fat soup intended to fill you up, keep you full and taste good.

There is so much information and good ideas on this site, thanks to everyone who responded.  I'll post in every eve to report how I did, I hope that those of you who are just starting do too!

Re: Starting tomorrow 8-27-07 for the first time

So i made the soup tonight getting ready to start tomorrow, and i put in too much curry!its still pretty good but im worried it might be a bit too spicy to eat in the morning... im thinking of adding some more cabbage and broth and then season it bowl by bowl... any suggestions? For tomorrow I'll start the day with fruit and have the soup for lunch and dinner.

Im nervous about day 2, because I am a student and I have class on Tuesday from 11:00am-4:45pm without a break, and i usually stick an apple and a yogurt in my purse and eat the yogurt around 1:00 and the apple around 3:30. What should i do!? i cant eat the soup until i get home, and the only raw vegetable i can eat completely plain is carrots. So i'll bring some carrot sticks, but without dip or anything to eat with veggies, I can't think of anything else I can eat that will be somewhat tasty. Once I'm home I'll have the soup and I am so excited to have some stir fry! speaking of which, is it ok to have a little Kikomann teriyaki sauce? Good luck to everyone starting the diet tomorrow!!

model85, if it is too spicy then add more cabbage and broth or water that will help, as for you long day without a break and veggies, besides carrots what about pickles? I have those for snacks in the eve. it is a veggie and they are refreshing

Re: Starting tomorrow 8-27-07 for the first time

At the end of day 2!! I'd say it was a good day except for the crazy craving I had for chicken fingers, but it didnt last too long..lol My oven is preheating for my potato and I'm sitting here munching on carrot sticks.

I have to say, I know its only 2 days but I didnt think I would even make it this far, I'm pretty proud of myself!

Re: Starting tomorrow 8-27-07 for the first time

Way to go on finishing day 2!  I am almost at the end of my day one.  The day was very easy, I work 6 a.m to 430 p.m. with half hour lunch in a busy office so there isn't alot of time to think about food.  I just struggled making my son's dinner of mac n cheese n chicken but I didn't give in.  I actually got him enough for two servings out and threw the rest away immediately just in case lol.

Tomorrow will be harder I think, we'll see!!smiley-tongue
