Thurs 10 May 2007 is D-DAY!

Morning all,

Here I am, sitting at work, in (un)sunny Scotland (and it's supposed to be our summer!), and all I can think about is what fruit I should buy for Day 1....which is tomorrow!  smiley-tongue

I have been reading everyone's threads and I must say it's quite encouraging.  I am actually looking forward to the diet.  I need a detox and I desperatley want to lose some of my middle-aged spread before I go to an event in London on the 19th May.

Anyhow, I've managed to talk my partner Mike into doing the diet with me, and he thinks I'll be the one to cave!  But, from reading this forum, I personally think it's not gonna be too bad....

I'll keep an online journal, and at the end of the diet, I'll let you know my weight loss.  And, for those betting types, we'll see who caves first...me or Mike!

I hope the above negative fruit and veg lists are helpful for you as they are for me and someone kindly posted them for me so I've copied them for you.

Remember us women have to stick together he'll cave first for sure! Good luck!

The weather is just as gloomy here in the south of England!!!

Re: Thurs 10 May 2007 is D-DAY!

Thanks Sally22.  Lists are much appreciated.

But, just to make sure I have read your message correctly...it's time for a 'silly question"!  smiley-blush

When you say "negative lists", do you mean that they're the fruit and veg I should try to avoid eating?

I'm thinking that's probably not what you meant, but better to be safe and ask...

Cheers,
Liesa

Re: Thurs 10 May 2007 is D-DAY!

These are the fruit and veg you should aim at eating. I've copied below some info on them below to try and explain how they work!.

NEGATIVE CALORIE FOODS

Negative calorie foods are foods, which use more calories to digest than the calories food actually contains! Calories from these foods are much harder for the body to use. In other words, the body has to work hard in order to extract calories from these foods. Even though a food may contain equal amount of calories, much less of these calories can possibly turn into fat in negative calorie foods as fewer calories are actually available to the body. This gives these foods a tremendous natural fat-burning advantage.
Consider the facts:
A piece of dessert consisting of 400 calories may only require 150 calories to digest by our body, resulting in a net gain of 250 calories which is added to our body fat !
On the other hand, a 5 calorie piece of celery may require 150 calories to digest, but resulting in a net loss of 145 calories from our body fat !! It implies that the more you eat, the more you lose weight!!!
Therefore, these foods are said to be good for achieving weight loss naturally without starving."
How it works?
All foods have a nutrient (carbohydrate, fat, protein), caloric (calories) and vitamin & mineral content. Vitamins stimulate living tissues to produce enzymes that breakdown the caloric nutrients of that food.
The foods with negative calorie contain sufficient vitamins & minerals that produce enzymes in quantities sufficient to break down not only its own calories, but additional calories present in digestion as well. This is the secret of The Negative Calorie Foods.
These foods will have maximum benefits when eaten without any empty calorie foods (junk foods). There are several foods such as vegetables and fruits that have negative calorie effect. Some of the foods that can be eaten in generous quantities are: Asparagus, Beets, Carrot, Zucchini, Papaya, Strawberry, Raspberry, etc.
Negative Calorie Diet & Weight Loss
In order to lose weight you have to burn more calories than you consume. The negative calorie food diet (some says it zero calorie diet) is very helpful in fast weight loss. You should know the complete list of the foods requiring your body to "burn" more calories processing them through your digestive system than the actual calorie content of the food itself. This results in your body burning up the excessive stored fat!

Re: Thurs 10 May 2007 is D-DAY!

I am becoming obsessed with reading the threads on this site!  I'm supposed to be doing some invoicing at work and I'm finding it's just not holding my attention as well as the CSD is! LOL  Gosh, maybe they should go back to the good ol' days when we didn;t use computers, 'cos then I wouldn't be tempted to log onto the internet... Bring back the slate & chalk!

Anyhow, Sally22, I am quickly typing this message to you and then I promise I'll get back to work!

Was just re-reading some of the other threads and spotted your pics!  Wow!  You look fab, and certainly do not look your age!

It's inspired me to take some pics tonight and then again in 7 days. Will post the results next week...

Hi Aussie Chick & Sally!

The weather in Yorkshire is absolutely naff as well - dull & rainy!!!

Aussiechick, good luck with the diet plan, I agree with Sally, it will be your other half that will cave in first - I bet he thinks it's gonna be a complete walk in the park, but keep using these boards for motivation & it will be you that sails through successfully & win your bet!!

It's great that you are doing it together so you won't be having to face lots of 'banned' food in the house! I have to cook for my daughter & get nice things in for her packed lunch, so that's always a bit of a temptation!

Sally will definitely help keep you on track - the charts she posted are fantastic with the negative foods on - a great help!

Sally - hope you are well & managing to take things easy! Any idea of how long timescale wise before you get over to Wales?

Anyway speak soon!

Re: Thurs 10 May 2007 is D-DAY!

Hi Sally, Aussie Chick and Angelicdelight!

I just had to chime in here because I think it is so cool that we all are from different ends of the earth and yet in a matter of seconds can communicate via the internet!  It is truly amazing and so cool! I feel I have new friends from different countries for the  first time!

Good luck Aussie!  I think Mike will cave first, but if he doesn't then be prepared for him to surpass you at the scale!  Men seem to loose so much more!  My husband (Mike too) has lost 26 pounds the past 6 weeks just following my old Weight Watcher plan and if I ate what he ate I would have gained probably!  They have such a better metabolism than we do!  Of coarse he works 14 hrs. a day, 6 days a week in Construction so that may have something to do with it!

Sally, great list, you are a sweetie for printing it out again. When they say "the more you eat the more you loose" it seems unreal until you think of it as these foods have less calorie content in them than it takes for your body to burn.

Sorry it's gloomy across the miles!  Not to make you feel bad but it's 78 degrees at 8:30 in the morning here in Arizona, and sunny today AGAIN! I'd better take a walk today and enjoy it because in a short time it will be too hot to leave the house!!  Seriously!  It gets up to 120 degrees in the summer here in Phoenix!  Then you will be laughing at me while you enjoy your lovely weather, right?

Okay Aussiechick, keep us postd and ask questions, this is the best way to get help and support and it is the ONLY thing that has kept me on the straight and narrow!  These folks are AWESOME!   Good Luck!

Re: Thurs 10 May 2007 is D-DAY!

Luckily for me I can't get to the internet when teaching the kids won't let me I'm usually just sorting them out on it! I'm sure if I had a different job I'd never do any work with a computer to surf on! lol! In fact I sometimes wonder what I did before computers I'd trade in my TV before my computer any day that's for sure!

It has rained here all flipping day it is so miserable well I'll have to get used to it as it rains even more in Wales!!!  Twilight it is never too hot for me I'm a sun worshipper!

We are aiming at 4 to 6 weeks to move I am so excited but there is so much to do as we have so much junk! Charity shop here I come! and we're going to get a skip or two or three lol! for the rubbish!

This site for sure has kept me on track and all the friends we make from across the globe and the support we get helps!

You guys are great!  Keep up the good work!!

Re: Thurs 10 May 2007 is D-DAY!

Twilight a pound is lb as in weight and 14 lbs makes a stone us Brits despite having been metric for ages still talk weight in stones and lbs i.e. if you weigh 10 stone [which is how we would describe our weight] you weigh 140lbs. We usually post in lbs cos we know others wouldn't understand if we said it in stones.

A pound can also be money over here so we have pounds and pence like you have dollar and cents in America. Before long though no doubt our money will be Euros and cents.

Hope this helps!

Aussiechic do you come from Australia?

Hi All!

Just a quickie cos I'm in midst of watchin desperate housewives!!

Sally - you really should do a car boot sale with your stuff if you have the time, then the stuff that doesn't sell take that to the charity shop!
If you can get a nice sunny Sunday to do it it would be great & any money you make you should treat yourself to some fab new clothes with that gorgeous slimline figure of yours!

I usually end up doing at least one car boot sale a year & always end up making around £50 or so & that's just with stuff that I really can't believe anyone would want!!

Anyway - good to hear you are all ok!

Will post again later!

Thanks for the info.  10 stones sounds much nicer than 140 pounds in my opinion, so I see why you use the term.  Regardless it's cool to hear the different expressions, though we all speak English it can be like a different language entirely!
Cheerio!  (do they still say that?) ha ha

Re: Thurs 10 May 2007 is D-DAY!

Hey Whittnie, glad you're home from work!  Miss you during the day!
Like I said before, even if your husband has some 'cheats', he will probably loose weight and maybe more than you.  It's frustrating!  I just look at a piece of cheesecake and gain weight,  Mike can eat  8 pieces of "Albertson's" fried chicken in one sitting and then be careful for a couple days and looses every week!  He just lost another 2 pounds today!  That makes 28 pounds in 2 months and he doesn't starve OR eat cabbage soup, it's disgusting!

Hope today has been good for you, mine's been fine, I seem to have so much more energy!   I did 30 minutes on the Gazelle today and for the past 3 nights I haven't been able to fall asleep before 1 or 2 AM!  So what they say about 'light headedness and feeling week doesn't apply to me, thank god!

Good Luck All!  Another day down!  yeah!  I can't wait for day 8!

Re: Thurs 10 May 2007 is D-DAY!

Morning Kerry, Twilight, Sally and Whittnie116,

It's very nice to 'meet' you all.

Yep, Sally, to answer your question, I am an Aussie.  Been over in the UK for 8 years now.  Still have my accent tho!  I miss home terribly.  Mike and I are planning to move to Australia in Feb 2009.  He's Scottish, but he loved Oz!

Anyhow, I'm posting to say that I should really change the title for this thread to "Friday 11 May is D-DAY!"....

Yep, that's right, I'm a day ahead of myself!   I was SO excited about starting the diet! LOL...Oh well, at least I'm prepared for tomorrow.

I have promised myself (which will make my boss happy!) that I am only logging onto this site once this morning and then I am cracking on with my HUGE workload (hmmmm, could it possibly be HUGE due to the fact that I'm slacking off?)

So, guys, have a great day, and I'll 'speak' to you again tomorrow, when Mike and I start our CSD.  You guys hang in there on your diet though...you're doing great!

Hi everyone!!

Hope you are all doing ok!

Leisa - just wanted to wish you the best of luck for your start o nthe plan, sure you will do fantastic, I know what you mean about these boards being addictive - it's so easy not to get any work done!!! Maybe you could enlist your boss onto the CSD too, that way they can also become addicted to these boards, so he or she won't mind if you are on them too!!!!

Anyway, continued luck to you all!!

Re: Thurs 10 May 2007 is D-DAY!

Thanks for the good wishes Barb, and everyone else too!

Well, this is it!  Day 1.

So, Mike and I have fallen out already and it's only just past 9am!  Ha ha!

I made the soup last night, and spent ages cutting up fruit and packing it in little containers for us to take to work (which is not up Mike's street really, cos he hates to take lunch to work - he usually has a cigarette and a coffee for his lunch!) and then he said to me "where's the salad?"....hmmmm, can you guess what happened next?  I went into freak-out mode!  I have no excuses....well, actually, I do...I gave up smoking (after many many attempts and a wasted £200 on laser therapy!) 3 weeks and 4 days ago (not that I'm counting) and I have PMT.  And I'm generally a bitch in the mornings!  LOL

But, I have sent a wee text to Mike to say sorry for my erratic behaviour, and he accepted my apology, so we're all good again!  ha ha....he's probably thinking "geez, it's ONLY Day 1!"  Poor soul....he's lovely in the mornings too, and I'm a nitemare!

So, we have weighed and measured -

Mike:
37 inch waist
172 lb

Liesa:
33 inch waist
39.5 inch hips (what a waste that I haven't got children - great child-bearing hips!)
23 inch thighs
170 lb

SCARY!

BTW, silly question for you guys...just want to chack that I'm reading the diet plan correctly...are we able to drink cranberry juice every day of the diet?  or just day 1? it only seems to mention it in the first instance...

I am getting SO addicted to the idea of this diet that I've even dragged my old yoga mat out so I can start exercising again this week instead of sitting on my arse watching telly!  smiley-clapping

Right - back to work Liesa...

See ya later!

As I read it the cranberry juice is Day 1 only.
Only eat and drink that which is mentioned on the daily plan.
This is the logic that makes people also drop all tea/coffee/alcohol during the diet.

Me, I had tea and coffee all the way thru.

(Of course, it's also the logic that makes people drop donuts, cakes and lard during the diet too)

Thanks for keeping me right on that one Stew.  What the hell am I gonna do with all those bloody cartons of cranberry juice now?  smiley-laugh  Ahhhh, I'm an idiot!

Well, it's lunchtime and I have eaten some very yummy fruit so far today, but the smells of toasted cheese sanwiches are wafting over this way from the cafe situated across the open foyer at work.  Damn them!  Esp since I ususally have a cheese, ham and tomato toasted sandwich every day at work. (and I have the audacity to wonder why I don't fit into most of my clothes anymore!)

Anyhow, onwards and upwards!!

As far as bathroom scales are concerned it should be "onwards and downwards"

Re: Thurs 10 May 2007 is D-DAY!

Stew,

I didn't know which children's book is responsible for the phrase "onwards and upwards", so I googled it!  But I only found Anne Fine's novel called Up On Cloud Nine.  But now I'm thinking that can't be it because the saying has to have been around far longer than her book!  So, who is it? Which book?  Put me out of my misery....

I know you were gonna give brownie points for the correct answer, but since I did some reearch of a sort, can I have a brownie? whoops! I meant brownie point!

I am SO SICK OF FRUIT!  But I WILL NOT CAVE.  I'm actually looking forward to my soup tonight!

You can also have the juice on day 7, it says "unsweetened fruit juice" not specifically Cranberry, but that counts.
